What is a Vintage Airstream?
Vintage Airstreams are original classic Airstreams build between 1947 and 1982. Vintage Airstream are categorized in a number of important model years. Changes in top panels and the same rear/front are the main differences. Growing with the years is also the size and the weight. Trailers pre 1960’s are significantly lighter. Fully restored classics often have a mirror shine polish. That is not factory original but due to the restauration process.
The Key Model Years:
- 1936 – 1947 – Airstream Torpedo and cigar shape Airstream Clipper (Bowlus Road Chief clone)
- 1947 – 1955 – Airstream Cruiser en Airstream Flying Cloud met rondere vorm met whale tail en 13 gefelste toppanelen
- 1955 – 1962 – Airstream Wanderer, Overlander en Sovereign met ronde vorm met whale tail en 7 toppanelen
- 1962 – 1969 – Introductie kleine modellen zoals Bubble en Bambi, ronde vormen met veelal 5 toppanelen
- 1969 – 1982 – Vooral grote units en gelijke voor- achterzijde 3 toppanelen stretch panels
- 1982 – heden – geen uiterlijke veranderingen meer, modellen zijn anders aan de binnenzijde en de raampartijen wijzigen telkens
